New AI model outperforms doctors by 20% in cancer detection
Researchers have unveiled an AI system that's redefining what's possible in cancer diagnostics. The new model, called ECgMLP, identifies endometrial cancer with 99.26% accuracy from microscopic tissue images, dramatically outperforming human specialists who typically achieve only 78-81% accuracy.
The system uses specialized attention mechanisms to spot cancer cells that doctors routinely miss during standard analyses. It's not just a one-trick pony either - when tested on other cancers, it maintained exceptional accuracy: 98.57% for colorectal, 98.20% for breast, and 97.34% for oral cancers.
This represents a fundamental shift in medical diagnostics. AI isn't just matching human performance; it's consistently exceeding it in life-critical tasks. The implications are profound since many cancers are highly treatable when detected early.
The real breakthrough here isn't just accuracy - it's accessibility. These models will eventually democratize high-quality cancer screening globally, bringing expert-level diagnostics to regions lacking specialized oncologists. Countries with doctor shortages or limited healthcare infrastructure stand to benefit most.
What you should understand: We're witnessing the early stages of a medical revolution where machines and humans work in tandem. The doctors who embrace these tools rather than resist them will provide superior care and dramatically improve patient outcomes.

SEC's dramatic crypto reversal signals new regulatory era
The SEC has undergone a remarkable transformation since Gary Gensler's departure in January 2025. On Friday, the agency's new crypto task force held its inaugural roundtable, openly acknowledging the failures of its previous "regulation by enforcement" approach and signaling major policy shifts ahead.
Under Commissioner Hester Peirce's leadership, the SEC has already dropped numerous high-profile lawsuits against major crypto companies including Ripple Labs, Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Robinhood, and OpenSea. This marks a decisive break from Gensler's aggressive stance that labeled most cryptocurrencies as securities.
The fundamental question being reconsidered is what actually constitutes a security. Rodrigo Seira of Cooley LLP made a compelling argument at the roundtable, comparing crypto purchases to art investments: "Just because I bought art partly as a bet on the artist's future doesn't suddenly turn that transaction into a regulated securities transaction."
Not everyone is fully on board with a hands-off approach. Crypto skeptic John Reed Stark maintained that people buying crypto are clearly investors requiring SEC protection, though he conceded regulations could be substantially improved.
The market implications are significant. This regulatory pivot creates a more favorable environment for crypto innovation in the US, potentially reversing the trend of crypto businesses relocating overseas. Projects that previously shelved US launches due to regulatory uncertainty may now reconsider.
What smart investors are doing: Those who understood that regulatory hostility was always temporary and maintained strategic positions throughout the uncertainty are now positioned to benefit from this policy shift. The companies that survived the regulatory winter without compromising their vision will likely emerge as the strongest players in this new landscape.
