March 30th, 2024

Exciting news - l’m adding a new section to the newsletter on “robotics.”

Before diving into this weeks’ news, I put together a training breaking down how to clone a video version of yourself with AI. If you make IG reels, YouTube shorts, TikToks, run ads, or anything else that requires you to be on camera, then this could be very helpful for you.

TODAY IN VR

Apple Confirms Vision Pro is Launching In China

This past week, Apple confirmed that the Vision Pro will launch in China this year.

Released on February 2nd (only in the US), Apple is looking to expand into new markets.

A lot of people also speculate that Apple plans to launch in Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Singapore, the UK, France, and Germany.

Meta, Apple’s biggest competitor, cannot be purchased in China. Plus their talks with Tencent about a potential partnership have stalled.

This would give Apple a key lead in the VR race.

TODAY IN AI

Amazon’s Anthropic Investment

Amazon recently invested additional funds into Anthropic, doubling down and bringing their total investment to $4B.

Anthropic is the parent company of the LLM Claude. Claude just released Claude 3 which is arguably the most powerful LLM in the game right now.

Between:

  • OpenAI (who Microsoft owns 49% of)

  • Anthropic (Amazon owns a large percentage of)

  • Gemini Pro (owned by Google)

  • and Grok (not as big but owned by Elon Musk)

It seems that many of the wealthiest entrepreneurs in the world (Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk) will be shaping the future of generative AI.

TODAY IN CRYPTO

SBF Sentenced To 25 Years

Sam Bankman-Fried, the crazy haired founder of crypto exchange FTX, was sentenced to 25 years of hard time this past week.

I think I speak for many of us when I say “GOOD…fuck that guy” (although I personally would’ve liked to see a lifelong sentence).

A lot of people lost a lot of money on FTX because SBF and his compadres were using user funds directly to trade inside of Alameda Research.

Unfortunately it isn’t looking too likely that these people will get their funds back.

SBF is just one in a long line of bad actors in the crypto world who have been put away over the last year or two.

TODAY IN ROBOTICS

Accenture Invests in Sanctuary AI

Management Consulting giant Accenture (fun fact: my first job was working for Accenture) invested in Sanctuary AI this past week.

Sanctuary AI is a humanoid robotics company that plans to make some bigtime moves into the manufacturing and logistics space.

We recently wrote about Figure AI’s major capital raises and Sanctuary AI seems to be taking a similar approach.

Robotics for small businesses is going to be a major industry over the coming years (as more and more small business owners struggle to recruit young people for blue collar jobs).
