SEC Targets Uniswap, OpenAI Researchers Fired Due To Leak

April 12th, 2024

Before diving into this weeks’ news, I put together a training breaking down how to clone a video version of yourself with AI. If you make IG reels, YouTube shorts, TikToks, run ads, or anything else that requires you to be on camera, then this could be very helpful for you.

TODAY IN VR

Vision Pro Airplane Movie Theatre?

I was recently reading an article from Road to VR breaking down the experience of a woman who used her Apple Vision Pro as a personal movie theatre on an 8 hour long flight.

Her experience was…STELLAR. She said it helped her to completely block out everything. She didn’t even feel like she was on a flight.

I have yet to purchase a Vision Pro, however, I have tried watching movies on my Quest 3 headset.

Movie theatres have already been taking a hit over the last decade or so. Could VR headset movies be the nail in the coffin for them? Only time will tell.

TODAY IN AI

OpenAI Researchers Fired Due to Leaks

OpenAI is a very secretive organization by many regards. They do not take too kindly when employees leak important information. This creates a major conflict of interest because top AI companies are poaching AI talent right and left.

OpenAI has terminated researchers Leopold Aschenbrenner and Pavel Izmailov due to alleged leaks.

The rumor is that the leaks were related to an AI breakthrough called “Q” which took place last November (during the week where Altman was fired).

A lot of people (Elon Musk in particular) are extremely concerned about the lack of guardrails that Sam Altman has when it comes to AI innovation. Many speculate that this “Q” situation was a major breakthrough related to AGI.

It’s tough to say due to the secrecy of these companies.

One thing that a lot of people don’t realize is that there’s a big difference between what’s readily available on the market and what is currently in Beta.

ChatGPT’s Sora platform, for example, has been available for quite some time now behind closed doors.

Chances are that OpenAI is a lot further ahead than we think.

TODAY IN CRYPTO

SEC Targets Uniswap

Gary Gensler isn’t exactly a “big defi guy.” The SEC has been taking swings at crypto over the past 18 months (there were 46 enforcement actions against crypto companies in 2023).

The SEC’s new big target is Uniswap.

Uniswap is a decentralized exchange that enables you to trade digital assets. It’s currently the world’s largest DEX from a market cap standpoint. It’s also the most population ETH Dapp available.

The main charge was focused on Uniswap acting as an unregistered securities broker and unregistered securities exchange.

There’s a bit of precedent here in the SEC case against Coinbase in which a judge ruled that Coinbase Wallet was not a broker (which is a good sign for Uniswap).

If only big boy Gary would have focused a little bit more time on the SBF’s of the world rather than Coinbase and Uniswap…

TODAY IN ROBOTICS

Collaborative Robotics Locks Up $100M

Collaborative Robotics just locked up a Series B led by General Catalyst. They’ve now raised over $140M since 2022.

The startup creates what it calls “practical collaborative robots” that work alongside humans in manufacturing, healthcare, and retail.

The main goal is to improve supply chain costs for companies.

2024 has been huge for robotics. We’ve already have $2.4B raised in this space (which is far outpacing the $5B from 2023).
